Design and stone mass
This is where the two brands differ most. A HUUM heater wraps its elements in a cage that you fill with stones, so what you see is a rounded pile of rock. That gives a lot of exposed stone and soft löyly, and it is the reason people choose HUUM for a visible, modern sauna.
Harvia's best-selling heaters, such as the KIP and Vega, are compact steel boxes with the stones on top. They heat up quickly and fit small rooms. If you want the stone-heavy look from Harvia, the Cilindro tower and the Legend wood stoves are the closest match.
Range and price points
Harvia covers almost every niche: small and large rooms, home and commercial use, quick-heat models, combination heaters and many wood stoves. That breadth includes lower price points. HUUM's range is smaller and built around its design, which won Red Dot awards for the DROP in 2015 and for the CLIFF and UKU control in 2021.
Controls and apps
Both brands offer phone control through a dedicated Wi-Fi panel: MyHarvia with Harvia's Xenio WiFi or Fenix controls, and the HUUM app with the UKU control. Budget for the control unit when you compare prices, because a heater alone is not app-ready.
Service and parts in Canada
Harvia has the bigger footprint in North America, with its own US operation and many dealers. HUUM sells through an official Canadian importer, Backcountry Recreation in Delta, BC and Laval, QC, and through retailers such as LeisureCraft. Before buying either, ask the seller who handles warranty claims. Stores for both are on where to buy sauna heaters in Canada.
Which one to choose
- Choose HUUM if the heater is a visible design piece and you want maximum exposed stone.
- Choose Harvia if you want the widest choice of sizes and prices, a quick-heating compact heater, or the easiest access to parts.
- Consider Saunum if even heat between floor and ceiling matters more than looks.
