Company background
Saunum was founded in Estonia in 2014 and is based in Rae, just outside Tallinn. The parent company, Saunum Group AS, is listed on the Nasdaq Baltic exchange under the ticker SAUNA. It exports to the United States and Canada through a subsidiary called Saunum Saunas North America.
The problem Saunum set out to solve
In most saunas hot air collects under the ceiling. Someone sitting on the top bench can be at 90 °C while their feet, a metre lower, sit in air that is far cooler. When you throw water on the stones, the steam rushes up to the same hot layer and the lower benches barely feel it.
Saunum heaters have a built-in air-handling unit, which the company calls a climate equalizer. It draws warm air from the top of the room and mixes it back down, so the temperature from floor to ceiling stays closer together and the löyly spreads through the whole room. People often describe the result as softer heat at a lower set temperature.
The equalizer works best in rooms built to Saunum's guidance for ceiling height and ventilation. Read the installation manual before you frame the room, not after.

Controls and app
Saunum heaters run from the Saunum control panel, and the Saunum Leil app adds phone control. As with other brands, the app depends on the control unit rather than the heater itself.
Electric only
Saunum makes no wood-burning stoves. If you are building a cabin sauna without a 240 V supply, look at wood stoves from Harvia, Narvi or IKI instead, and read electric vs wood-burning sauna heaters before deciding.
